Looking your best for your wedding day abroad

Looking their best for their wedding abroad is important to most couples. There are quite a few things to think about such as clothes, hair and make-up and even making sure you get enough sleep the night before!

When you are getting married abroad, you have to think about things a bit differently and also consider factors such as climate and transportation.

What to wear for your wedding abroad

Having your wedding abroad doesn’t mean you have to be limited as to what you can wear. In fact in many ways getting married abroad actually gives you more clothing choices.

For example you could go for a traditional bridal gown, like you would if you were getting married at home. Alternatively, you could go for something unusual to match your unconventional wedding abroad. People have been known to get married abroad in bikinis!

Climate

Obviously one of the main things to bear in mind when planning the outfits for your wedding abroad is the climate of your chosen destination. If you are marrying on a beach in Bali, the last thing you want is a heavy floor-length dress dragging in the sand and making you sweat!

Strapless dresses in light fabrics are very popular for weddings abroad in hot countries, and bare feet or flat shoes are a must for beach weddings.

Alternatively, if you are getting married abroad in picturesque Austria, you might want to consider adding a fake fur stole to your strappy dress and staying warm with a wintry theme.

Men have fewer options when it comes to wedding attire and many of them like it that way! Most grooms, even if they are getting married abroad, still like to opt for a suit on the big day. However, if you will be marrying abroad in a hot climate consider going without a tie and wearing a lighter weight fabric, such as linen.

Hair and make-up for your wedding abroad

You could do your own hair and make-up on your wedding day abroad, or you could take advantage of the beauty packages which many hotels and resorts offer and have it done by a professional on the day.

If you choose to do your own make-up and hair have a few practices before your wedding abroad to make sure you can apply your make-up and style your hair with ease on the day.

If you are getting married abroad somewhere hot you might want to tweak your usual make-up products. Heavy foundation will be uncomfortable in a hot climate and it’s wise to invest in some good waterproof mascara to avoid the panda-eyed look!

Make sure you and all your party use sunscreen if your wedding abroad is in a hot country. Nobody wants to look like a lobster on their wedding day. It’s natural to want a sun-kissed tan to compliment your wedding abroad, and many brides, or couples, opt for a professional fake tan before they go and perhaps top that up safely during their stay.

Transporting your outfits to your wedding abroad destination

The safest option is to take your wedding outfits on to the plane as hand luggage in dress and suit carriers. Some airlines allow this but you should check with them before you set off as there are sometimes restrictions.

Alternatively if you are putting them in the hold, pack them in a hard suitcase for minimum creasing.

Hang your wedding outfits up as soon as possible after you arrive. If you are worried about any creases many hotels provide a pressing service as well.

Relaxing beforehand

Finally, try and relax and sleep well! You want to look refreshed and glowing on your wedding day abroad.
